what are we doing this time
Pick a holiday
Every holiday wants something different from a yard. Halloween gets looked at from four feet away by somebody in a costume. The Fourth gets looked at in full sun. Christmas is the only one where anybody is keeping score.
Christmas
Late November through early January
The big one. Six weeks of run time, the highest expectations on the street, and the only holiday where your neighbors are keeping score.

Halloween
Late September through October 31
The one holiday where people get out of the car and walk right up to your door, so detail at eye level matters more than anything you can see from the road.

Fall and Thanksgiving
September through late November
The longest season of the lot. A harvest display goes up in September and stays useful until the day the Christmas lights go on.

Valentine's Day
Late January through February 14
Short, cheap, and almost nobody does it, which is exactly why a Valentine yard gets noticed. Two weeks of the deadest month on the calendar.
- start early January
- 30 plans
Easter and Spring
March through mid-April
A daylight holiday. Nothing needs to light up, everything needs to survive wind and rain, and the whole thing goes up in an afternoon.
- start late February
- 30 plans
Fourth of July
Memorial Day through Labor Day
One setup that covers Memorial Day, the Fourth and Labor Day. Three months of run time for one afternoon of work.
- start early May
- 0 plans
St. Patrick's Day
Late February through March 17
Small, green and cheerful in the gap between February and spring. A porch-scale holiday rather than a whole-yard one.
- start early February

Christmas is the only one with plans so far
The layout system works the same for all of them, because a focal piece is a focal piece whether it is a snowman or a giant spider. Themes for the other holidays are being written. If you want one sooner, say so and it moves up the list.
