Plywood Tombstones
Before you cut anything. Print with page scaling set to 100 percent or "actual size", never "fit to page". Then measure the ruler printed under each shape. If it does not measure what it says it measures, the printer scaled the page and every dimension on it is wrong.
Round-top headstone, 24 in.
Finished size 16" wide by 24" tall. This one prints at 25 percent, because the real thing is bigger than a sheet of paper. Two ways to use it: take it to a copy store and ask for 400 percent enlargement, or copy it square by square onto your stock, where every printed square is 4 in. on the real piece.
The arch is an exact half round, so swing it with a pencil on a 6-1/2 in. string from a nail 7-1/2 in. down the centre line rather than tracing it. The shoulders are where that circle meets the sides, 13 in. apart. Bury the plinth an inch or two when you set the stone, so it reads as sunk rather than propped. Then widen the shoulders or flatten the arch on the other three, because a matching set is the tell that they came out of a box.
